Step-by-step guide to your admission and application procedure

Step 1 - Prior education

Admission with a Bachelor's Degree Human Geography & Planning / Spatial Planning and Design / Global Responsibility & Leadership (University of Groningen)
Once you obtain your Bachelor's Degree in Human Geography & Planning or Spatial Planning and Design or Global Responsibility and Leadership of the University of Groningen, you have direct access to the Master Cultural Geography. There are no further English language proficiency requirements.
Registration:
You have to register for the programme in Studielink yourself!
For Climate Adaptation Governance you can register for MSc Programme Cultural Geography (60656)
For Sustainable Tourism & Society you can register for MSc Programme Cultural Geography; Sustainable Tourism & Society (60656)
Please note that this programme has one official start date: 1 September

Bachelor's Degree from the University of Groningen or another Dutch University
To be considered for admission to this Master, you need to hold an academic Bachelor's degree and have knowledge in geography, know how to conduct scientific research and have completed at least 10 ECTS in statistics and research methods.
To assess whether your educational/academic background meets the specific programme requirements, the CG Admissions Board will consider the level and curriculum of your previous studies, and the grades you have obtained. You have the possibility to show your knowledge of geography, scientific research skills and knowledge/experience in the relevant track’s topic (either Tourism or Climate Adaptation Governance).
On the basis of your application the Admissions Board will determine whether:
- You are (provisionally) admitted. (All conditions have been fulfilled but we might still need to receive certified documents).
- You are conditionally admitted. You will be admitted, provided that you meet certain conditions. You will find the conditions of your admission in your decision letter.
- You are not admitted. You are not admitted, because you do not meet the programme’s entry requirements. The reasons will be clearly stated in the decision letter.

Admissions with a Bachelor's Degree of a non-Dutch University or non-Dutch University of Applied Sciences
To be considered for admission to this Master, you need to hold an academic Bachelor's degree and have knowledge in Geography, know how to conduct scientific research and have completed at least 10 ECTS in Statistics and/or Research Methods.
Students with a non-Dutch Bachelor's Degree Certificate will have to go through a two-step application procedure.

- For Climate Adaptation Governance: MSc Programme Cultural Geography; Climate Adaptation Governance (60656/4512)
- For Sustainable Tourism & Society: MSc Programme Cultural Geography; Sustainable Tourism & Society (60656/4513)
- You will receive a message from Studielink stating that the University of Groningen (UG) has to verify your educational background through the Progress Portal (replacing the previous system, OAS, as per October 2023). You will receive a separate email with your login details (make sure to also check your spam folder). This email can also be found in your Studielink inbox.
