Step-by-step guide to your admission and application procedure

Step 1 - Prior education
|

|
Admission with a Bachelor's Degree Business Administration or International Business (University of Groningen)
Once you obtain your Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration or International Business of the University of Groningen, you have direct access to the Master Sustainable Entrepreneurship. There are no further English language proficiency requirements.
Registration:
You have to register for the MA Programme Sustainable Entrepreneurship (67085) in Studielink yourself!

Admissions with a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Groningen or another Dutch University
To be considered for admission to this Master, you need to hold an academic Bachelor's degree that included business related courses and either a Bachelor’s thesis and/or research methods courses.
To assess whether your educational/academic background meets the specific programme requirements, the Sustainable Entrepreneurship Admissions Board will consider the level and curriculum of your previous studies.
You have the possibility to upload a substantial academic paper, e.g. your Bachelor’s thesis or an essay, to demonstrate your research skills.
On On the basis of your application the Admissions Board will determine whether:
- You are (provisionally) admitted. (All conditions have been fulfilled but we might still need to receive certified documents).
- You are conditionally admitted. You will be admitted, provided that you meet certain conditions. You will find the conditions of your admission in your decision letter.
- You are not admitted. You are not admitted, because you do not meet the programme’s entry requirements. The reasons will be clearly stated in the decision letter.

Admissions with a Bachelor's Degree of a non-Dutch University or non-Dutch University of Applied Sciences
To be considered for admission to this Master, you need to hold an academic Bachelor's degree that included business related courses and either a Bachelor’s thesis and/or research methods courses.
Students with a non-Dutch Bachelor's Degree Certificate will have to go through a two-step application procedure.
- Registration in Studielink for the MA Programme Sustainable Entrepreneurship (67085) in Studielink.
- You will receive a message from Studielink stating that the University of Groningen (UG) has to verify your educational background through the Progress Portal (replacing the previous system, OAS, as per October 2023). You will receive a separate email with your login details (make sure to also check your spam folder). This email can also be found in your Studielink inbox.

Admissions with a Bachelor's Degree of a Dutch HBO / Dutch University of Applied Sciences
Students who have a HBO Bachelor’s degree certificate of a programme with a strong relation to sustainability and knowledge of business administration or management, for example (but not limited to) Business Administration or International Business may be admitted to the Sustainable Entrepreneurship preparation course. You have to submit your application for Sustainable Entrepreneurship to the Admissions Board to receive information about your admissibility for the preparation course. The application deadline for this course is 8th of January 2024.
Furthermore HBO candidates coming from HAVO need to meet the minimum English language proficiency requirements. The following documents are valid:
- Full English Bachelor’s degree, where the only language of instruction is English.
- TOEFL: a minimum score of 90 with a minimum of 18 on reading and listening, 20 on speaking and 21 on writing,
- IELTS: a minimum score of 6.5 with a minimum score of 6.0 on all items, or
- Cambridge: C1 advanced or C2 Proficiency with a minimum score of 180
What is the Sustainable Entrepreneurship preparation course
The course focuses on research methods (research questions, theoretical foundations and research methods) of sustainable entrepreneurship. It is possible to follow the course when you are in the last phase of your Bachelor degree of Applied Sciences (HBO).
At the end of the course, you are able to:
- Formulate a relevant research question based on literature and/or business practice
- Select and discuss a theoretical perspective relevant for the research question
- Select and discuss a research method relevant for the research question
- Develop a written version of the research proposal
- Present a written version of the research proposal
The course starts on Tuesday 27th of February 2024 and entails 9 meetings of 3 hours, the course takes place on site at our Faculty Building in Leeuwarden. Next to the meetings self-study and working on assignments is part of this cours
